Baby & Child First Aid

This Course is aimed at candidates who are engaged in the care and welfare of babies and children.  It is essential that first aiders have a knowledge of the modifications to adult first aid which are necessary when treating children and babies.  One major consideration when treating injured or sick children is their general inability to communicate effectively.

Candidates are instructed in a range of first aid techniques specifically aimed at treatment of babies and children utilising infant (0-1 years) and junior (1+)

manikins to ensure realism and best practice.

The following are a selection of topics which will be taught:-

  • Managing an incident involving a child and/or baby
  • The treatment plan
  • Choking  and obstructed airway
  • Recovery Position
  • Rescue Breathing
  • CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
  • Shock
  • Miscellaneous conditions affecting children/infants i.e. febrile convulsions/meningitis/hyper/hypothermia
  • Poisons
  • What to do in the aftermath of the incident

An A4 size  certificate which is valid for 3 years, will be presented to all candidates who are assessed as competent.
