1 Day First Aid at Work -Emergency Course

This one day first aid course is aimed at training a first aider to recognise the scale of an emergency, prevent loss of life and arrange help for the casualty.

This basic course will concentrate on emergency procedures only, and the candidate must not attempt first aid techniques which have not been covered within this course, or accompanying First aid manual.

This course complies with the HSE 1981 "First Aid at Work" legislation.

Candidates are required  to attain a level of competence throughout this training course via in-class assessment.

 

The following are a selection of topics which will be taught:-

  • Principles of First aid
  • Aims and responsibilities of the Emergency First aider
  • Control of an emergency scene
  • Communication skills
  • Care of the unconscious casualty (including recovery position)
  • The airway (including choking)
  • Rescue Breathing
  • CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
  • Control of Bleeding and treatment of wounds
  • Shock
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Fractures
  • Miscellaneous Conditions
  • The aftermath

Eligibility:  Any individual who has an interest in basic first aid procedures.

The candidate may also be required to act in a supportive role to a first aider who has attended 3 day FAW training.
